Winter 2027 (CSE 11)
I’m recruiting tutors for CSE 11 for Winter 2027. I get many tutor applications and may not be able to interview everyone. These steps help me evaluate yours.
What to include in your application
- Preference: List CSE 11 as your first or second choice.
- Teaching video: Record a short video (about 5 minutes) of yourself explaining one CSE 11 topic, and share the link in your application. Imagine you are explaining it to a student who is stuck.
- Improvements: Name two concrete things you would improve about CSE 11, such as content, lectures, lab hours, or course culture. For each one, describe the problem and how you would fix it.
- Role of human tutors: AI tutors are available 24x7 and know more about Java and programming than any human tutor. What do you think is the role of a human tutor in the age of AI tutors?
- Availability: Type the following sentence in your essay, or explain why it is not true: “I expect to be available for course duties from Monday, January 4, 2027 (the first day of Winter Quarter) through Saturday, March 20, 2027 (the end of finals week).”
- Resume: Point out anything on your resume you want me to notice.
- Logistics: My class is large, and tutors help with scaling logistics. Share any experience with scheduling, logistics, or automation.
Good to know
- Put this in the application, not in an email to me. Keep your essay short, with a few sentences per point.
- Only the department makes offers. I can only share my preferences.
- Don’t be afraid to apply if you got a B in the course. If you struggled, you may understand what students go through, and that can make you a better tutor.
